Learn about some of the Never Bean Better Ancestors
Shamus
J P Shamus UD SH WCX ** Sometimes the dog finds you. Shamus was born into a litter of adorable puppies. This cute little red puppy who liked to dig up flower beds grew up to be a human’s best friend, hunting companion and loyal teammate. As the first golden retriever to one of our humans, they learned together and truly enjoyed the ride. Shamus got his competitive start in the obedience ring. He was a biddable team player and loved to please. As he matured, this smart and easy to train gentleman went on to compete in field retrieving tests and trials and was recognized for those achievements. Little did he or his human know what paw prints this special red boy would leave on the golden retriever world. A very respected and knowledgeable breeder named Gerry Clinchy noticed his incredible talent and natural good looks and took a chance on this relatively unknown golden. He became the sire of a beautiful litter that produced amazing and talented puppies. One of those very special puppies was Maverick and the Pine Run and Neversink birth lines were born. All the Never Bean Better pack pups go back to this incredible gentleman. Without him, we would not be here sharing the “Bean Wuv” that we do today. We are forever grateful to Gerry, who noticed Shamus so many years ago. She has been a part of our dog family since day one, and for decades her goldens have gone back to Shamus and Maverick. She is also the breeder who took great knowledge and care in the Maverick and Chick breeding that gave us our Teague. Sometimes gratitude brings things full circle. When we spend time in Virginia, we all get to visit Tony Turrisi. He owned the mother of Shamus, all those years ago. We are forever grateful to our human and golden family. Shamus started quite a legend and his legacy continues through the dedication and love of the amazing dogs who we now lovingly call the “Merry Mavsters,” -- our golden family of humans and their related dogs. His gift to all of us has allowed us to “Enjoy the ride.”
Roy
Gaylans Royal Flush, MH, WCX ** Bean’s daddy Roy, called northern Pennsylvania home with Dr. Charles & Lauran Mancuso. This handsome and kind-hearted boy traveled with his retrieving career and earned some of the highest titles in his field work. He earned his Master Hunt Test Title during a Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty. That very special event led to the introduction of Bean’s Momma Ruby. The couple were the proud parents of Bean and his amazing, loving and very talented littermates. When Roy retired from competitions, he spent his time doing the things he loved best … upland game bird hunting and loving and fetching up fun with his humans and home pack of Goldens. There was no denying Bean of his roots. He came by his red-headed good looks and loving heart from his daddy Roy.
Ruby
Pine Run’s Neversink Gem, JH, SH, WCX, CCA, OD Known to the Never Bean Better fans as Bean’s Momma Ruby, she was a regal lady who ran the show. An accomplished woman holding several retrieving titles and even a placement in the show ring, this diva dog knew how to hold her own. She was the ultimate Momma to two amazing litters of puppies. Her talented pups grew up to excel in so many areas and many earned titles in agility, field retrieving, obedience, rally, and tracking at various levels giving her the esteemed title of Outstanding Dam. Raising baby Bean from day one was her prized achievement. They were inseparable. She called all the shots until her last day. A foodie aficionado, Ruby was not crossing the bridge until she had her birthday steak and passed at age 13 years and 1 day. There is no doubt that Ruby taught us all a few lessons during her reign.
Maverick
Pine Run's Top Gun CD MH WCX *** OS There is a toast we make when we celebrate with our “dog” family and friends. It’s “To the Dog Who Got You Here.” This says it all. The Never Bean Better family owes a debt of gratitude to this very special dog. Maverick put the “golden” in Golden Retriever and put this incredible dog family on the map. This smart, sweet, and eager to please golden boy was a rockstar in the retrieving world. He earned some of the highest achievements in the field retrieving sport and was recognized with the top goldens in the United States more than once. His legacy and recognition as an outstanding sire continued with his amazing and accomplished offspring with his grands and great and great-great grands who continue to carry it on today. In our Never Bean Better circle he is the grandpaw to Bean and daddy to his Momma Ruby. He is the daddy to Trooper and grandpaw to Trav. He is Carly Q’s great-great grandpaw and through incredible dog science, he is the daddy to our Teague. His legacy lives on in all areas of performance including agility, conformation, obedience, field, rally, tracking and in specially trained areas such as therapy dogs, service dogs, and search and rescue dogs. However, the number one talent that he has passed on to his canine family is that of “family dog.” All of these pups are human lovers above all
Ice
Can. CH. Comstock's Iceman SH WCX OS “Ice” They say that every dog has a purpose and comes into our lives for a reason. This super handsome and gentle golden is the son of Maverick. When he was five years old, his current owner was facing some challenges and was no longer able to keep him. It was an honor to welcome him to our home. He joined his daddy Maverick and soon after welcomed his litter sister Ruby. Ice was the perfect gentleman. A finished Canadian bench champion in the show ring as well as an accomplished field retrieving competitor, he was the daddy to a very talented line of puppies that granted him the title of outstanding sire. It was after he retired from competing that he found his true purpose and was certified as a therapy dog. His laid-back presence put so many at ease. He walked with humans who had hip and knee replacements, made regular visits to the memory units at rehabilitation hospitals and long-term care facilities, working with Alzheimer's and dementia patients, who lovingly called him Ike. He walked in parades with children and let little ones read to him. It is understandable why he went on to sire puppies who also became outstanding therapy dogs and service dogs. He crossed the rainbow bridge eight months before Bean was born. There is no doubt that Ice’s spirit gently held the leash while Bean did his healing work.
